Monday 13th January Millwall Outer Dock London
We were called out by concerned members of the public after they saw this cygnet in distress. We had to get the kayaks out to catch the bird which was in the big Millwall Outer Dock in Docklands London. Fortunately the team were able to capture it and found it had its lower mandible jammed into what looks like the wheel from a discarded wheelie trolley. It just goes to show wildlife can get caught up in all sorts of discarded items. The bird was unable to feed and would have died of starvation had it not been spotted by concerned citizens. Fortunately it was only bruised and had a small cut under the chin and so was released back onto the dock after a full examination. While the team were there they also noticed a fully grown swan that was extremely lethargic and not feeding so that bird was also rescued and brought to the Swan Sanctuary for veterinary examination and treatment.
A video of the cygnet with wheel still attached can be viewed on this link
